GST Registration

Mandatory above the turnover thresholds, and often needed below them

GST registration is mandatory once your turnover crosses the prescribed threshold, and compulsory regardless of turnover for inter-state suppliers, e-commerce sellers and certain other categories. Many businesses below the threshold register voluntarily because their customers require a GST invoice to claim input credit.

Who this suits

  • Businesses crossing the turnover threshold
  • Anyone supplying goods or services inter-state
  • E-commerce sellers and aggregators
  • Businesses whose customers require GST invoices to claim input credit
  • Exporters claiming zero-rated supply benefits

The process, step by step

  1. Eligibility and structure check

We confirm whether registration is mandatory or voluntary in your case, and whether the regular scheme or composition scheme suits you better. Getting this wrong is expensive to unwind, particularly for restaurants and traders.

  2. Part A — TRN generation

PAN, mobile number and email are submitted in Form REG-01 Part A. OTP verification generates a Temporary Reference Number.

    Same day
  3. Part B — document upload

Business details, promoter and partner information, principal place of business, bank details, and the goods or services you deal in, with supporting documents.

    1 working day
  4. Aadhaar authentication

Completing Aadhaar authentication substantially speeds up approval. Without it, physical verification of premises is generally required, which adds weeks.

  5. ARN and departmental review

An Application Reference Number is issued. The officer reviews and may raise a query in Form REG-03, which must be answered within the prescribed time or the application lapses.

    3–7 working days
  6. GSTIN and certificate

Registration certificate in Form REG-06 is issued with your 15-digit GSTIN. You can begin issuing tax invoices from the effective date.

Requirements

Aadhaar authentication of the authorised signatory significantly reduces processing time. Thresholds differ for goods and services and are subject to change — we confirm the current position for your case before filing.

Questions we get asked

How long does GST registration take?

Usually around 7 working days with Aadhaar authentication completed and clean documents. Without Aadhaar authentication, physical verification is generally required and it takes considerably longer.

Is there a government fee?

No. GST registration carries no government fee. Our ₹2,000 covers the professional work end to end.

Should I register voluntarily if I'm below the threshold?

It depends on who you sell to. If your customers are GST-registered businesses, they will usually want a tax invoice so they can claim input credit, and not having a GSTIN can cost you work. If you sell mainly to consumers, voluntary registration adds filing obligations for little benefit. We'll look at your position.

What happens after registration?

Monthly or quarterly returns become due — GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, or the QRMP scheme if you qualify. Returns are due even in months with no sales. We handle ongoing filing.

Do I need separate registration for another state?

Yes. GST registration is state-specific. Operating from premises in both Kerala and Karnataka means separate registrations in each.
